Good Originals
"Our wish always was to make something really good which also gives a sense of calm."
That's what Gitta and Peter Plotnicki, Co-Owners of Merz b. Schwanen, had in mind when reviving the brand in 2011. Thanks to high-quality, sustainable materials made on original loopwheelers, and timeless design, this surely applies to every piece.
This honest craftsmanship, attention to detail, and unique way of production date back to 1911: That's when Merz b. Schwanen originally opened its factory doors on the Swabian Albs, Germany. While many things changed for good during the last century, the original loopwheelers remained the cornerstone of our German production.
With the oldest machine being from 1889, these rare loopwheelers are truly special, and this is reflected in every loop of the one-of-a-kind fabric they slowly warp row by row. This gentle production process assures unparalleled comfort and exceptional haptic modern machines cannot reach. In addition, slight irregularities within the fabric make each piece an original.
Another original? Button-bordered worker's shirts were among the first styles to be made back then and still are a mainstay today – along with others. Whether you go for a timeless T-shirt, an authentic henley, or a classic sweatshirt, every piece is made to last and look and feel good every day!
From a Flea-Market-Find to Timeless Basics
A fateful find of life- and business partners Gitta and Peter Plotnicki on a flea market in Berlin lead to them reviving the Merz b. Schwanen brand that was originally founded in 1911.
The loopwheelers still remain even today but there's a lot more to discover.
