Breathe new life into your damaged and old textiles and learn a new skill that lasts you a lifetime!

Clothes worth wearing are worth repairing.

"Care for your clothes like the good friends they are." – Joan Crawford

Here's what to expect:

Darning is a needle-weaving technique of mending holes in fabrics. It can be used to create an invisible mend, or as a way to take a flaw and turn it into a stand-out feature. In this workshop we’ll go over the darning method and practice the technique on a pair of Merz b. Schwanen socks before you start mending your own items.

You can choose from a wide range of yarns to mend with, with exclusive access to a range of Merz b. Schwanen’s own yarns. The workshop is taught by weaver and textile designer (and darning-addict) Emma Wood, at the Merz b. Schwanen flagship store in Mitte, Berlin. Just bring your clothes or home textiles that are in need of some repair, and take home not only some newly-mended pieces, but also a skill that will last you a lifetime.

This your chance to experience this wonderful workshop and gain new skills for only 20€.

A handy skill that will last a lifetime and your repaired items (including your newly-mended Merz b. Schwanen socks!).

In addition, you’ll receive
a swag bag from Merz b. Schwanen containing: an illustrated zine so you never forget your new skill, your own set of darning tools (hoop, mushroom and needles) and instructions on how to properly care for your knitwear.

You'll also be able to take home
extra yarns, so you can finish any items you may not have had time for during the workshop.

No! This workshop is great for total beginners, even if you’ve never threaded a needle before. All you need is curiosity and at least one item with a hole in it.

This workshop is aimed at knitwear with holes (from moths, tears, worn-out yarn, etc.) and can include items like: socks, sweaters, scarves, hats, and cushion covers.

Please note this workshop is not intended for “torn” items such as jeans (these require another mending method).

Learn the art of darning and prolong the joy of wearing your favorite textiles.
The lovely Emma Wood will guide you through the workshop.

She is a weaver based in Berlin and has an MA in Weaving from the Royal College of Art and has worked across the textile industry in commercial design, performance materials, research and restoration. Emma’s current research focuses on experimental material development, specialising in the intersection of heritage hand-weaving techniques, technology and textile engineering. She works out of her studio in Wedding, filled with six looms and an unholy amount of yarn.
